Teach your Labradoodle to be a service dog! What is a service dog? A service dog applies to any dog that assists someone with a disability. While guide dogs for the blind are  the most common there’re many others. Other types include dogs that assist the hearing impaired, provide balance for the mobility-impaired, pull wheelchairs or fetch items for those that cannot retrieve the items themselves, stay by an owners side who has anxiety to help keep them calm, blood sugar alert dog to notify their owner when their blood sugar drops or rises to high. Labradoodles make great service dogs due to the qualities both the Labrador Retriever and Poodle have. Labradoodles are very easily trained. They are a super intelligent breed.

To start the process you first want to start your dog in basic obedience. They will need to lean the basics first which include sit, down, stay, come, and heal. Service dogs should meet a number of minimum requirements as outlined by Assistance Dogs International, INC. your dog must follow these commands 90% of the time both in home and out in public to pass. Some dogs will need further training beyond this depend on what type of disability the person has and needs to dog to do. As long as you dog can do the basics then you could take your Labradoodle to a nursing home, or even a school. The sky is the limit on how you Doodle can help you.
